Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

Edison Frias allowed two runs in the first but recovered to throw five blanks at Frisco as Corpus Christi downed the RoughRiders 3-2 Saturday at Whataburger Field before 6,390.

The Hooks (9-6) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Frias (1-0) allowed five hits, walked two, and struck out five. His pitch count was 78 (50).

From there, Brendan McCurry faced the minimum over 1 2/3 innings, including two strikeouts. Reymin Guduan earned a four-out save, his first of the season.

Guduan struck out every hitter he faced, his fastball topping out at 99.

Ryan Cordell's fourth home run of 2016 and his second of the series provided Frisco (11-4) with an early 2-0 advantage. Isiah Kiner-Falefa was struck by a pitch to begin the game.

Lead-off man Teoscar Hernandez became Corpus Christi's first run. He walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, swiped third, and crossed when Jack Mayfield dropped a single into center field.

The Hooks drew even during the third, Derek Fisher going deep to left off Victor Payano for his third round-tripper.

Payano was done after four innings, four walks, and three strikeouts. He threw 83 pitches (45).

Corpus Christi forged a 3-2 lead in the fifth against Jose Leclerc (0-3), James Ramsay's bases-loaded ground out plating Hernandez. The inning was extended when Frisco right fielder Preston Beck dropped a fly off the bat of Chase McDonald.

Cordell, who had three hits, owns a 10-game hitting streak.

Corpus Christi right-hander Cy Sneed (1-0) takes the mound Sunday at 2:05 vs. an undetermined starter for the RoughRiders. It's H-E-B Kids Day, so all children run the bases postgame.
