Frisco RoughRiders News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, scored five runs in the first inning as they cruised to a 9-3 victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks Friday night at Whataburger Field.
The RoughRiders (11-3) led the whole way on Friday night, leading by as many as seven runs and never fewer than four after the five-run first. In the first, Frisco sent 10 batters to the plate, scored all five runs with two outs, and chased Francis Martes (1-1) from the ballgame after just 2/3 of an inning.
With five runs of support behind Sam Wolff (3-0) before he even took the mound, the righty pitched the first five innings for the RoughRiders and picked up his third win in as many games. Wolff allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits, with one walk and three strikeouts in the victory. Cody Buckel, Juan Grullon, and Jose Valdespina held the Hooks to just one run on two hits for the remaining four innings.
After the five-run first, Frisco scored a pair in the third, one in the fourth, and another in the eighth on Alex Burg's first home run of the year. Burg and Preston Beck each posted three-hit nights, while Ronald Guzman, Zach Cone, and Alberto Triunfel each had a pair of base knocks.
The Riders still only have one loss away from Dr Pepper Ballpark, as they improved their road record to 7-1 with their second straight win over Corpus Christi. Friday's first inning also marked the seventh time the Riders have scored four or more runs in an inning this season.
Frisco and Corpus Christi will continue their four-game series Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Riders will send LHP Victor Payano (1-0, 3.09 ERA) to the mound against RHP Edison Frias (0-0, 2.25 ERA) for the Hooks. Live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show begins at 6:30 p.m.
The Riders next return home on Monday, April 25 to take on the San Antonio Missions in the beginning of an eight-game homestand, which includes Runner-Up Night on April 26. Tickets for all eight games are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
