Fresno FC News Release

N FRANCISCO - Fresno FC enters the second round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup this Wednesday against El Farolito (NPSL) of San Francisco.

El Farolito defeated Academica SC 2-1 on goals from Miguel Garduna and Leonardo Fredes in the first round two weeks ago. El Farolito is a member of the National Premier Soccer League and has won the U.S. Open Cup in its semi-pro days in 1993 when the club was known as CD Mexico. CD Mexico was founded in 1985.

Fresno FC will compete in the U.S. Open Cup for a second consecutive year. In 2018, Los Zorros defeated Orange County Football Club (2-0) and Sporting Arizona FC (2-1), in the second and third rounds, respectively. Fresno fell in the fourth round to LAFC, 2-0, at Banc of California Stadium.

The winner between El Farolito and Fresno FC advances to the third round on May 29 against the winner between Reno 1868 FC and Sacramento Republic FC. If Fresno wins, they'll play at Sacramento or Reno. If El Farolito wins, they will host their opponent at Boxer Stadium.

Wednesday's match must produce a winner, so if the score is tied after regulation, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played in their entirety. If the score remains tied, a penalty kick shootout will decide the winner.
