Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Aces low in Mr. Rodgers' Neighborhood Derek Fisher strokes second homer in two games to begin season in 6-1 Fresno win over Reno

A 12-hit, two-homer performance by the assumed best lineup in Triple-A baseball was somewhat overshadowed on opening night, in a 13-6 loss to the Reno Aces. On Friday, the Fresno Grizzlies had no intentions of letting that happen again.

Behind reigning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of The Year Brady Rodgers, Fresno defeated Reno 6-1 in the second game of the season. The economical Rodgers needed just 70 pitches over six innings, to scatter just four hits and a run (zero walks), striking out four.

A nine-batter, four-run third inning, aided by a pair of walks was punctuated by RBI singles by Tyler White and Reid Brignac, and the Grizzlies jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Rodgers did not allow a hit - or a ball out of the infield - until the fourth inning. In the fourth Christian Walker drove in a run, the third of three scattered singles.

It was 6-1 Fresno after a two-run line drive homer to right field off the bat of Derek Fisher in the home half of the forth; the second longball to that section of Chukchansi Park in as many games this season for the Astros top outfield prospect. Fisher is the first Grizz to homer in the first two games of the season since Nate Schierholtz in 2007, who homered in the first three that year. Fisher has also homered in three consecutive Grizzlies games overall; he went deep in the 2016 season finale, a 4-3 win at Sacramento on September 5.

Reno starter and Arizona Diamondbacks number one pitching prospect Anthony Banda (0-1) had an abbreviated night, going just two and a third innings, allowing three hits, four runs (two earned) with four walks and two strikeouts.

The third of this season-opening five-game series will be Saturday night at Chukchansi Park in Downtown Fresno. Probable starters are right-hander Matt Koch for the Aces, and lefty Brian Holmes for the Grizzlies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
