Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

Against the best offensive team in the Pioneer League, Parker French allowed just three baserunners in 6.2 innings of shutout baseball as the Grand Junction Rockies beat the Orem Owlz Friday night at Brent Brown Ballpark 7-0.

French earned his second win of the season, and helped the Rockies avoid the sweep of the 4-game series.

Neither team scored in the game's first two innings, but in the third, the Rockies struck. Jensen Park reached on a error and Daniel Suero singled. They scored on Collin Ferguson's double to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Suero doubled the Rockies lead with a 2-out, 2-run single. They added two more in the fifth when Jonathan Piron hit a 2-run homer off the scoreboard in right field to make it a 6-run game.

After French left the game, Hunter Brothers retired the only batter he faced thanks to an incredible diving catch by Bobby Stahel at the leftfield warning track, and the Rockies added to the lead in the eighth.

Mylz Jones brought home a run on an infield single. Then, Sam Hilliard's 2-run triple made it 9-0.

Kelvin Franco kept the Owlz off the board in the eighth, but after the Rockies scored a tenth run in the ninth, the Owlz put up a 4-spot in the bottom of the inning to avoid the shutout. Dakota Behr struck out David Fletcher to end the game.

After being held to 18 hits in the first three games of the series, the Rockies collected 15 in game four. Suero had four while Ferguson, Hilliard, Piron, and Jenen Park had two.

The win gets the Rockies to 9-7 on the season, two games back of Orem for first place in the South Division. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
