Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

IDAHO FALLS, ID - In the opener of a three-game series between the two teams, the Idaho Falls Chukars were outslugged by the Orem Owlz by a score of 14-5 on Saturday night.

Arriving to Melaleuca Field just an hour before game time, the Owlz started things off in the top of third inning against Chukars starter Hunter Haynes (L,0-4). Aided by an error from the Chukars defense, a RBI double from third basemen Michael Pierson, sacrifice fly from outfielder Kyle Survance Jr. and a RBI single from shortstop David Fletcher put Orem up 4-0.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Chukars would come as close as they would the entire night to salvaging the ballgame. Following an error from the Owlz and a fielders choice, a run-scoring groundout from first basemen Josh Banuelos and a RBI single by designated hitter Alexis Rivera cut the Chukars deficit to two.

Unfortunately for Idaho Falls, that is as close as they would get.

After taking on a run in the fourth inning, Ogden scored a combined nine runs from the sixth to the eighth inning off of Chukars lefties Cruz Guevara and Ian Tompkins. Three players in the Ogden lineup had three hits.

For the Chukars, they got two of their final three runs of the game in the fourth inning on one swing of the bat. After outfielder Roman Collins led off the frame with a single, catcher Kyle Pollock blasted a two-run homer to dead centerfield. It was the first homer of the year for Pollock. The 24-year-old catcher also doubled earlier in the game and reached base three times on the night.

From an offensive standpoint, Idaho Falls got three hits from outfielder Amalani Fukofuka, the last being an RBI single in the ninth inning. The Chukars also got two hits from newcomer Cody Jones in his first game patrolling the Melaleuca Field outfield.

Idaho Falls will continue a seven-game homestand at Melaleuca Field on Sunday afternoon with game two of a four-game series against the Orem Owlz. The Chukars will send LHP Dylan Sons (0-1, 8.16 ERA) while the Owlz will counter with a pitcher that is to be determined. First pitch is at 4:00 PM.
