Frederick Wins 10-0 in Last Game in Kinston

On a night that was a celebration of over 50 years of Carolina League baseball in Kinston, the IKeys were the ones celebrating as they salvaged a game in the four-game series with a 10-0 win on Friday night. The Kinston Indians will move to Zebulon, NC to become the Carolina Mudcats for the 2012 season. The final game was played in front of a sellout crowd of 5,203.

An emotional night at the park lacked drama. Frederick scored a season-high six runs in the first inning to blow the game open. 3B Dale Mollenhauer and 2B Jonathan Schoop reached with consecutive singles to open the game. Next up was SS Manny Machado who hit a hard groundball that struck the field umpire. Machado was given first base and the table was set. 11-men batted in the first inning with the Keys scoring six runs on six hits to start the rout.

On top of the hill in his final regular season start was LHP Jake Pettit. He went five innings allowing one hit to pick up his seventh win of the year. Pettit, who will start game one of the Northern Division Championship Series on Wednesday night, has led the team to a 9-1 record in his ten starts.

RHP Ryan O'Shea came on after a tough loss last night and worked four shutout innings for his second save of the year. The Keys allowed six runs in the entire four-game series.

Mollenhauer reached base five times in his seventh game as Keys leadoff hitter. Four men had multi-hit games and CF Miguel Abreu, the lone Key without a hit, walked twice.

The Keys continue its final road trip of the 2011 regular season Saturday, September 3rd at 6:05 p.m. with LHP Nick Haughian getting the start. The game will open the final regular season series of the year as the Keys head to Wilmington, DE to take on the Blue Rocks. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.
