Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (SEPTEMBER 2, 2011) - Two more former Winston-Salem Dash players have reached the highest level of professional baseball with today's news that RHP Addison Reed and SS Eduardo Escobar have been promoted to the Chicago White Sox from AAA Charlotte.
Out of the bullpen, Reed was 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and one save in 28.1 innings for the Dash. Last year's third round draft pick by the White Sox, Reed was ranked by Baseball America as the 13th best prospect in the organization. He started his first full professional season with low-A Kannapolis and quickly ascended to Advanced-A. Upon his departure from the Dash on June 11, Reed ranked fifth in the Carolina League in opposing batting average (.196), second in strikeouts per nine innings (12.39), first in fewest walks per nine innings (1.27), and fourth in fewest baserunners per nine innings (8.58).
In 13 appearances with AA Birmingham, Reed recorded a 0.87 ERA in 20.2 innings and was called up to Charlotte in less than six weeks. In 21.1 innings with the Knights, he picked up two saves and had an ERA of 1.27.
Escobar was the opening day starting shortstop for Winston-Salem in 2010 and had four hits including two doubles against the Kinston Indians. That set the stage for what would be an All-Star first half and in his time with the Dash, he hit .285 with 39 RBI in 87 games. In mid-July he was called up to Birmingham and hit .262 in 49 games. This year, Escobar was the everyday shortstop for Charlotte and hit .266 with four home runs and 49 RBI in 137 games
The two players became the second and third former Dash players to reach the major leagues this season. LHP Hector Santiago made his major league debut earlier in the year. With Reed and Escobar in the fold, eight total former Dash players have reached the major leagues since 2009.
The Winston-Salem Dash are the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. To purchase tickets and for more information, please call 336-714-2287 or visit www.wsdash.com .
