Frederick Keys News Release

The Kinston Indians, who boast the top pitching staff in the Carolina League, held the Keys offense in check on Friday night as Frederick mustered just three hits in a 4-3 series opening defeat at Grainger Stadium.

Down 1-0 in the fourth inning the Keys plated three unearned runs. After CF Kyle Hudson walked to leadoff the inning he reached second base on a wild pitch. Hudson took third on a ground out and scored when Indians SS Ronald Rivas booted a groundball with two outs in the inning. Two batters later, with two runners aboard, DH Jacob Julius lined a double to left field to clear the bases putting Frederick up 3-1.

The Indians would rally though as struggling RF Lucas Montero hit a game-tying two-run home run to right field knotting the contest at 3-3. Indians CF Jordan Henry, who wreaked havoc throughout, singled and went to third on a ball four wild pitch. He would score a batter later on a groundout for what would be the game-winning run.

The Keys went down in order six times in the game. Frederick did leave two in scoring position in the eighth inning.

Frederick's lead remains six games as both Lynchburg and Potomac lost.

The series continues on Saturday, May 15th from Grainger Stadium as LHP Rick Zagone makes the start for Frederick. Coverage begins at 6:40 p.m. on The Keys Baseball Network from Kinston, NC.

Frederick will return home for Kids Eat Free Monday, May 17th with a 7:00 p.m. first Pitch against the Potomac Nationals. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
