Frederick Keys News Release
After rain ruined Saturday afternoon, the Red Sox were the culprit on Sunday. In front of a great crowd of 5,239 at Harry Grove Stadium, Salem swept the doubleheader against the Keys. In game one, LF David Mailman belted a solo home run in the top of the eighth which gave the Red Sox a 6-5 win. In game two, Salem dominated from start to finish and cruised to an 8-1 victory. Frederick fell to 4-4 following Sunday's defeats while the Red Sox improved to 6-2.
In his Orioles organizational debut, RHP Mitch Adams allowed one run over three innings while striking out seven. Following his departure from the game the Keys trailed 1-0. Salem added four runs in the top of the fifth before the Frederick bats came to life in the home half of the inning. The Keys batted around in the inning and knocked Salem starter, RHP Pete Ruiz, from the game. 3B Buck Britton had the big hit of the inning. Britton singled into right field off the newly inserted Jeremiah Bayer. 2B LJ Hoes and 1B Tyler Townsend came around to score on the two-run single by Britton. Hoes, Townsend, and RF Brian Conley each added RBI in the five-run fifth.
Game one remained tied at five after seven innings. In the first extra frame, David Mailman led off with a towering blast down the right field line off RHP Dan Klein. The Mailman homer proved to be the winner in game one.
The second game of the doubleheader was completely controlled by Salem. The Red Sox scored a run in the top of the first and never looked back.
RHP Bobby Bundy made his second start of the year in game two. During the fourth inning, Bundy was pulled from the game due to an injury. Over his three plus innings of work, he allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out four and walking none. LHP Will Startup relieved Bundy and tossed four innings. Startup surrendered three runs, all of which came in the top of the seventh.
The Keys bats did not have an answer for RHP Chris Balcom-Miller. CF Kyle Hudson led of the bottom of the first with a single and that was the only hit Frederick would muster off Balcom-Miller. He struck out three and walked one en route to his second win of the season.
Frederick's lone run of game two came on a sacrifice fly by 3B Dale Mollenhauer in the bottom of the seventh.
Due to unplayable field conditions at Pfitzner Stadium, the Keys (4-4) will welcome the Potomac Nationals (2-6) for a three-game series starting on Monday afternoon. RHP Jacob Rasner (1-0, 0.00) will start for Frederick while RHP Paul Demny (0-0, 1.59) gets the nod for the P-Nats. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium.
All three games of the series against Potomac will start at 1 p.m. with gates opening at noon. All seating will be General Admission. All kids ages 17 and under and Keys ticket plan holders will receive FREE admission.
