Kinston Indians News Release

The Dash jumped all over Kinston in the middle innings, going on to a 9-0 win Sunday afternoon in Winston-Salem. With the win, Winston-Salem (6-3) took the three game series from Kinston (2-7).

Winston-Salem started the scoring in the bottom of the third inning off of Kinston starter Giovanni Soto. Jose Martinez began the half inning with a walk. Jared Mitchell then reached safely after an error by Kinston first baseman Chase Burnette. With two-outs in the inning, Martinez attempted to steal third base. Kinston's catcher Roberto Perez threw wide of the third base bag allowing two runs to score on the error. The Dash extended the lead to 3-0 when Martinez hit an RBI triple to drive home Daniel Wagner in the bottom of the fourth. Winston-Salem drove Soto from the game with an RBI double from Mitchell driving in Martinez later in the inning. Soto went 3 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and four runs (two earned). Soto (0-2) walked four and struck out four, taking his second loss of the year for Kinston.

Joey Mahalic had trouble out of the pen for Kinston, giving up four hits and five earned runs through 2 1/3 innings of work. The big middle inning stretch was capped for the Dash by a three-run home run from Ian Gac. The 25-year-old hitter has a Carolina League leading five home runs on the season.

Dash starter Cameron Bayne was very good, picking up the win with seven innings of shutout ball. Bayne allowed just five base runners in those seven innings, walking two and giving up three hits.

The K-Tribe continues their first roadtrip of the season Monday in Wilmington, Delaware. Game time 6:30 pm Kinston's T.J. House will get the start on the mound for the Indians. The K-Tribe will return home Thursday to begin an eight game homestand.
