WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 17, 2011) - Cameron Bayne threw seven scoreless innings for the Dash and Ian Gac nailed his fifth home run to help the Dash to a 9-0 win against Kinston. The win marked the highest run total, and first shutout of the year for Winston.

The Dash (6-3) had runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings but did not score against Indians starter Giovanni Soto. Winston-Salem broke through with two outs in the third. The first two hitters reached for the Dash when Jose Martinez walked and Jared Mitchell reached on an error. Soto retired the next two hitters before facing Kyle Colligan. The runners were moving on the 3-1 pitch, which was ball four, and catcher Roberto Perez threw the ball into the Indians' bullpen, scoring both runners and allowing Colligan to move to third. Both runs were unearned, but the Dash took a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Winston built on that lead. The first two hitters were retired before the Dash rattled off three straight hits to plate two more runs. Daniel Wagner singled and scored on Martinez's triple. Mitchell then drove in Martinez with a double.

The Dash added to its lead again in the fifth, as part of a streak of four straight innings where Winston-Salem scored at least two runs. Andy Wilkins led off the frame with a double and scored on a triple off the bat of Colligan. Austin Yount followed with a single that drove home Colligan to make the score 6-0.

Gac belted his fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning. With Martinez and Mitchell on base after successive walks, he hammered a pitch from reliever Joey Mahalic that landed near the flag poles beyond left field. It was Gac's second homer of the series, and fourth against Kinston this season.

Kinston (2-7) was held scoreless through seven innings by Bayne (2-0). The Dash starter extended his scoreless inning streak to 17 dating back to his final start in Kannapolis last season. He allowed three hits, struck out four Indians and earned his second win of the season. Charlie Shirek finished off the shutout after throwing two innings and allowing one hit. Soto (0-2) got the loss after giving up four runs in 3.2 innings.

Winston-Salem heads to Myrtle Beach for a mid-week series on the Grand Strand starting tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. RHP Joe Serafin (0-0, 4.50 ERA) starts for the Dash against RHP Joe Wieland (0-1, 1.50 ERA). Fans can catch all the action starting with the Dash Pregame Show at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com .
