THE HILLCATS: Saturday the Hillcats lost 11-4 to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans...It was their sixth defeat in a row as they fell for a second straight time to the Pelicans...Lynchburg now sits in fourth place in the Carolina League Northern Division at 1-6...
VS. MYRTLE BEACH: The Hillcats bested the Pelicans 11 games to nine in 2010...However, it should be noted that Myrtle Beach was the Advanced-A Atlanta Braves affiliate in 2010, 14 of the current Hillcats donned a Pelican uniform last season...Meanwhile, Myrtle Beach is now affiliated with the Texas Rangers whose previous Advanced-A team played in the California League a year ago...
A WARM WELCOME: Friday night the Hillcats opened the gates to Lynchburg City Stadium for the first time as an Atlanta Braves affiliate...5,170 fans came to see the Hillcats battle the Pelicans and see Luis Salazar make is 2011 managerial debut...Hillcats Assistant General Manager Ronnie Roberts, who's been in with Lynchburg since 1991, said it was the biggest crowd he's seen...
EIGHT IS ENOUGH: The Hillcats have kept themselves within a run head ing into both ninth innings of their first two home games against the Pelicans, however, a pair of final inning collapses have lead to blowout losses...Friday, Myrtle Beach scored four runs in the ninth on three hits, two walks, and the help of a Lynchburg error...Saturday night things were even worse, as 11 Pelicans saw the plate scoring seven runs...The Birds took advantage of four free passes with four hits including three RBI doubles en route to a lopsided victory over the 'Cats...
DIGGING A HOLE: The Hillcats have yet to score first in each of their first seven games...The 'Cats were able to come back from a 2-0 deficit last Saturday in Potomac, winning 6-5, and erased 3 separate deficits in Sunday's game against the P-Nats before falling 7-6 in extras; however, Lynchburg was shut out Tuesday in Salem, and after equalizing a 2-0 Salem lead on Wednesday and a 1-0 Salem lead on Thursday, the 'Cats ultimately fell in both contests...Friday, the Hillcats brought the game within one before a four run Myrtle Beach top of the ninth put the game out of reach...Then again on Saturday, the Birds put a one-run game out of reach, exploding with seven ninth inning runs...
BEST OF THE BRAVOS: Eight members of the Hillcats are ranked amongst the top 30 prospects in the Braves organization according to Baseball America...That list includes RHP Arodys Vizcaino (7), SS Andrelton Simmons (15), RHP David Hale (17), RHP Dimasther Delgado (18), OF Todd Cunningham (20), OF Adam Milligan (22), INF Joe Leonard (23) and 2B Phil Gosselin (25)...Vizcaino was tabbed the 93rd best prospect in all of baseball by BA as well...
WITH THE NATION WATCHING: The Hillcats 2011 Manager Luis Salazar made his triumphant return to managing Friday night in the Hillcats home opener...Rick Albert had been filling in as Interim Manager for the first five games of the season...Salazar was struck in the head with a foul ball on March 9 while watching a spring training game...He is still recovering from three different surgeries he had to undergo following the incident, including a procedure that removed his left eye...Friday night media swarmed the Hill City including, ESPN.com, Sports Illustrated, The Associated Press, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, WSET ABC 13 Lynchburg, WDBJ 7 Roanoke, WSLS 10 Roanoke, and The News & Advance...

UNTOUCHABLE CRIM SCENE: RHP Matt Crim has the most innings without allowing a hit so far this season on the Hillcats...Crim is fitting into his new role as a reliever after finishing 2010 with the second most starts on his team (the Myrtle Beach Pelicans)...In two appearances, Crim has thrown 2.1 ip of hitless baseball...He has also inherited four runners, allowing just one to score and that run was unearned due to a booted ball at third base in Potomac with the bases loaded and two outs; Crim had induced an infield pop-up the batter before as he came into the game with the bases full and one out...
OH NO...NOT MILLIGAN: OF Adam Milligan continued to swing a hot bat last night...He went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles last night, as he extended his hit streak to five games, hitting his way on base safely in each game that he has played in 2011...Now batting .300 (6-for-20), Milligan has just one single and five extra base hits including a homerun, triple, and three doubles...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Robbie Ross was a second round pick out of Lexington Christian Academy in the 2008 draft...Split time between Hickory and Bakersfield in 2010 before being called up to Frisco for the playoffs...8-7 with a 2.59 ERA at Hickory and was selected as the starting pitcher for the North Division in the South Atlantic League All-Star Game...12 combined victories in 2010 was tied for 2nd in the Rangers farm system...Held right-handers to a .248 batting average...Named to Northwest League all-star team in 2009 after spending entire season with Spokane...
