Frederick falls for fourth consecutive defeat

Playing in front of their new manager Richie Hebner for a first time, the Frederick Keys battled but fell short in their comeback effort leaving the tying man at third base in the ninth inning in a 5-4 loss to Kinston to open their seven game road trip on Memorial Day. Keys C Matt Wieters, who homered and at-bat prior struck out swinging to end the game stranding runners at the corners.

The Keys would fall behind for good in the sixth inning. Finally starter Jake Arrieta appeared human as he allowed home runs by 1B Beau Mills and 3B Jared Goedert to put the Indians atop 4-1. Arrieta suffered the loss (5-1), his first career defeat in eleven starts.

Frederick would rally when Wieters hit a majestic two-run home run to centerfield in the eighth inning. The drive was his league leading 12th home run of the season and it brought the Keys within 4-3. Wieters would finish the night 2-for-4 with two RBI's.

After Kinston plated an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning the Keys mustered their ninth inning rally that fell just short.

The Keys have now dropped four consecutive games for a first time this season. Frederick is now 3.5 games in back of Potomac with 20 games to play in the first half.

The series continues with a matinee tomorrow at 11 a.m. Frederick manager Richie Hebner will make his debut in the afternoon affair. The Keys will return home Monday, June 2nd to face the Salem Avalanche. It will be Kids Eat Free Monday presented by Giant Eagle for the 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
