Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys prevailed against Winston-Salem on getaway day, 5-4. Frederick led by three runs entering the ninth inning but the Dash scored two runs and had the tying run on second base when LF Kyle Colligan lined out to RHP Sean Gleason to end the game. 2B Buck Britton finished the night with three RBI including a two-run home run in the fourth inning. The Keys took three of four from the Dash and head to Myrtle Beach 9-10 on the season.
LHP Nick Haughian made his second start of the season on Thursday night. After a shaky first inning, Haughian settled down. He allowed two runs, all in the first, on five hits over four innings of work.
Frederick trailed by two heading into the fourth inning. 1B Tyler Townsend led off the inning with a triple off the fence in centerfield. Two batters later, 2B Buck Britton launched a Cameron Bayne offering deep to right-center for his first home run of the year. Britton's blast tied the game at two.
The Keys added an unearned run in the fifth and two more in the sixth as they led the Dash 5-2 after six innings in Winston-Salem.
RHP Oliver Drake relieved Haughian and was untouchable in his first four innings of relief. Drake allowed one hit and struck out three entering the ninth. In the bottom of ninth is when the situation got sticky. With one out, 1B Ian Gac double to right field. After an Andy Wilkens groundout advances Gac to third, 2B Jake Oester singled home Gac on the Drake's last pitch of the night. Frederick closer, RHP Sean Gleason, entered the game. Pinch hitter Nick Ciolli singled off Gleason to bring home Oester from second. 3B Austin Yount walked to move the Ciolli, the game's tying run, to second. LF Kyle Colligan stepped to the plate in a pressure filled spot. Gleason won the battle as Colligan lined out to the pitch after shattering his bat on the pitch.
Drake picked up the win on the night. Gleason notched his fourth save of the year while Bayne fell to 2-2.
Frederick leaves Winston-Salem winners of three out of four and will continue their roadtrip in Myrtle Beach. The Keys will send RHP Bobby Bundy (1-2, 2.77) to the hill on Friday night while the Pelicans will start RHP Joe Wieland (1-1, 0.95). First pitch of the three-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. on Friday night.
