Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
POWERMAN: Ryan Strausborger came into Wednesday's doubleheader with two career home runs, both coming last year with Short Season-A Spokane. In back-to-back at bats in game one, he equaled that total. His first shot off starter Mitchell Clegg turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 fifth inning lead. The next inning off reliever Rob Wort, he smacked a three-run homer to give the Birds important insurance runs in their 6-3 win. In the nightcap, he broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run blast off starter Danny Rosenbaum in the third inning for his third round-tripper in four at bats.
CAREER DAY: Strausborger's first game last night was the first multi-homer game of his young career. He only had two dingers in his pro career coming into the game, both in 2010 with Spokane. The first came on August 15 against Salem-Kaizer and the other was on August 20 against Eugene. The five runs he knocked in on those homers were also the highest single-game total of his career. His previous high of two came on July 19, 2010 against Boise.
FORTUNE FAVORS THE BOLDEN: Jared Bolden broke out of his season-opening slump in a big way on Wednesday, notching two hits in both ends of the double dip. He singled and stole a base in the fifth inning of game one, coming around to score on Ryan Strausborger's first home run. The next inning he singled in a run to give Myrtle Beach a 3-1 lead, scoring again on another Strausborger homer. He kept it up in the finale with an game-tying RBI triple in his first plate appearance in the third inning. He led off the fifth with a single to give the Lynchburg, VA native a base hit in four consecutive at bats. Bolden started the season with a 2-for-31 slide, but got on the right track last night.
