Frederick Bats Stay Quiet

September 4, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys could not get their bats going again on Sunday afternoon as they dropped a 4-1 contest in Wilmington. The game was marred by the injury of LF Kipp Schutz who made an incredible leaping effort for home run in the eighth inning.

Schutz went over the wall and landed head-first. Immediately the bullpen called for help and the training staff went racing to help Schutz. The game was delayed more than ten minutes and Schutz was taken off on a stretcher. Reports say that Schutz was taken away on a stretcher for precautionary measures.

Wilmington took the lead in the third inning with consecutive doubles to grab a 1-0 lead. The deficit swelled to 3-0 for the Keys on consecutive two-out RBI-singles for the Blue Rocks in the fourth inning.

The Keys scored their lone run in the fifth inning as CF Miguel Abreu doubled and then C Brian Ward singled moving Abreu to third base. RF Bobby Stevens grounded out to bring Abreu home. But the Keys could not score again. Frederick has scored just six runs in its five losses on their current trip.

The Keys close the 2011 regular season Monday, September 5th at 1:05 p.m. with LHP Nathan Moreau on the hill against Wilmington. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.
