York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution played extra innings for the fourth time in five games but saw their four-game winning streak snapped with a 4-3 loss in 11 innings at Long Island on Monday night. The Revs will go for a fifth straight road series win in the rubber match on Tuesday night, concluding their seven-game road trip.
The Revs battled back in Monday's contest as Long Island slapped York with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Cody Puckett lined a two-out RBI single to right-center to open the scoring, and Jon Griffin followed with a two-run homer to deep left for an early 3-0 Ducks lead.
Long Island starter John Brownell allowed just one hit through the first four innings, working perfect innings in three of the first four. The Revs rallied in the middle innings, however.
York scored twice in the fifth inning to get on the board. Johan Limonta led off the inning with a double, and with two outs, Willie Cabrera kept the threat alive with a walk. Shannon Wilkerson singled to right, driving in Limonta with the Revs' first run. Eric Patterson followed with an RBI double down the right field line, bringing the Revs within one at 3-2.
Andres Perez led off the sixth inning with a single up the middle. Brandon Boggs then reached on an error by Griffin at first base with Perez racing all the way to third. Brownell bounced back to strike out Limonta for the first out, but Boggs stole second base on the play, prompting an errant throw from catcher Mike Blanke. Perez scored from third as the throw sailed into center, tying the game at 3-3. Boggs also advanced to third but was stranded there as Brownell settled down to record the final two outs.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the 11th when the Ducks produced the winning run. Blake Davis drew a leadoff walk to start the inning and Blanke dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move Davis into scoring position. Prentice Redman then produced a bloop single to shallow center, plating Davis with the game-winner.
Long Island had threatened in each of the final four innings, with the leadoff batter reaching each time.
Delta Cleary, Jr. led off the bottom of the eighth with a bloop hit, but Revs reliever Brad Bergesen retired the next three.
Reegie Corona led off the last of the ninth with a single to left, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Davis, and moved to third on a two-out infield single by Redman, but reliever Leyson Septimo struck out Bryan Sabatella to end that threat and force extras.
Cleary, Jr. drew a leadoff walk in the tenth and stole second base with two outs. York reliever Shawn Teufel then intentionally walked Griffin after falling behind 3-0, and the move paid off as the lefty retired Corona on a foul pop up to catcher Salvador Paniagua, stranding two more. Teufel (0-2) would suffer the loss, however, allowing the run in the 11th.
The Revs were held silent offensively late in the game as Duck pitchers combined to retire the final 14 York batters. Long Island's bullpen worked four perfect innings with six strikeouts. The Ducks staff combined to strike out 13 batters in the game, 10 over the final six innings.
Nick Struck (2-1) earned the win for Long Island after a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 11th. It marked his eighth consecutive scoreless outing.
Both starting pitchers worked seven strong innings. Brownell struck out seven and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, throwing 125 pitches in the effort for Long Island. Revs starter Matt Neil allowed nothing after the first inning, tying a Revs season-high by going seven innings. He allowed six total hits and just three after the first inning while walking two and striking out four, throwing 108 pitches.
Cleary, Jr. had the biggest night of any hitter, going 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, three stolen bases, and a run scored. Long Island out-hit York 10-6 in the contest.
