
Bluefish Fall In Extra Innings To Somerset

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 1, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (16-20) fell to the Somerset Patriots (25-11) 8-1 in nine innings in the first of two seven inning games scheduled at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday night. Game number two was postponed due to inclement weather. It was the third time this season that the teams have played an extra-inning game, with Somerset coming out on the winning end each contest. Bridgeport has now lost six consecutive games overall.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Cory Riordan picked was tagged with the no-decision, pitching seven innings, giving up one run and seven hits, walking two, and striking out five. It was Riordan's third consecutive quality start. Somerset Starting Pitcher Lucas Irvine also received a no-decision, tossing six innings, surrendering one run on three hits, walking three and striking out six.
The 'Fish took the 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Andres Rodriguez off Irvine, scoring Sean Burroughs who led off the frame with a single. The Patriots would tie the game in the top half of the fifth inning on an RBI double by Scott Cousins off Riordan, plating Scott Kelly who reached on a bunt single. As extra-innings moved on and the score remaining tied at one, Somerset broke the game open in the top half of the ninth inning, sending 12 men to the plate, scoring seven runs on eight hits. The game winning hit came from Jonny Tucker, who laced an RBI double down the leftfield line off reliever Nate Baker, scoring James Skelton, who led off the inning with a walk. Baker (0-1) was tagged with the loss, pitching two-thirds of an inning, allowing seven runs on seven hits, walking one. Somerset Relief Pitcher Buddy Boshers (2-0) earned his second victory in as many days against Bridgeport, tossing one scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. Burroughs and Welington Dotel each led the way with two hits for Bridgeport. Dotel extended his hitting streak to six games and his on-base streak to a season-high seven games.
The Bluefish close out the homestand on Tuesday, June 2nd, when they take on the Somerset Patriots in a single admission doubleheader at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Both games are scheduled for seven innings. First-pitch in game number one is at 10:35 a.m.
