Skeeters Drop Game One of Double Header, 5-1

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped game one of its double header with Southern Maryland, 5-1. The Skeeters aim to split with the Blue Crabs in game two.

Beamer Weems singled in the bottom of the second to extend his on-base streak to 26-straight games.

Southern Maryland pushed across its first run in the top of the third. Jamar Walton hit a line-drive home run to right, staking the Blue Crabs to a 1-0 advantage. Cyle Hankerd hit a solo-shot of his own in the top of the fourth and again in the top of the seventh, increasing the lead to 3-0 for Southern Maryland.

Following Hankerd's second solo shot, Gustavo Molina and Daryle Ward notched a single and a double into center to chase Sugar Land's starter, Sean Gallagher, from the contest. With Cory VanAllen on the rubber, Casey Stevenson singled through the right-side of the infield to score Molina. Walton lifted a sacrifice fly to center to push the Blue Crabs' advantage to 5-0.

Sugar Land mounted a late rally in the bottom of the seventh, pushing across a run. Travis Scott singled through the right-side and Delwyn Young singled down the right field line. Dustin Martin reached on a fielder's choice. Jeremy Barfield lined out to shortstop, but an errant throw back to first allowed Scott to score from third. Weems hit an infield popup to end the game.
