Fourteen Checkers in AHL Training Camps

CHARLOTTE, NC-Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Derek Wilkinson announced Tuesday that fourteen current Checkers will participate in AHL training camps this month.
Players returning to the Checkers from 2008-09 who will attend AHL camps are: Julien Brouillette (Manitoba Moose), Andrew Carroll (Hartford Wolfpack), Ethan Graham (Milwaukee Admirals), Luke Lucyk (Hartford Wolfpack), Matt Schepke (Hartford Wolfpack), Mike Taylor (Milwaukee Admirals) and Steve Ward (Hartford Wolfpack).
New additions to the Checkers who have earned invitations include Derek Couture (Hartford Wolfpack), Tyler Doig (Hartford Wolfpack), T.J. Reynolds (Lake Erie Monsters), Randy Rowe (Lake Erie Monsters), Kevin Schaeffer (Lake Erie Monsters) and Jaime Zimmel (Rockford IceHogs).
"Having so many high-caliber signings this season is a testament to the hockey experience, quality of life and facilities here in Charlotte," stated Wilkinson. "We look forward to showcasing this talent come opening night."
Of the 14 players invited to AHL training camps, 11 have prior AHL playing experience. The camps will be the first chance at AHL evaluations for rookies Luke Lucyk and Jaime Zimmel and third-year-pro Julien Brouillette.
Matt Ford, who was qualified in July and remains property of the Checkers, will attend training camp with the Lake Erie Monsters.
The Checkers' schedule is now available and they are getting ready for their 17th season of play as a member of the ECHL and 16th as an affiliate of the New York Rangers. In the team's 16-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 12 times including five consecutive playoff appearances to date. Season tickets are on sale now.
