Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that high-scoring forward Jarrett Konkle has re-signed with the team for the 2009-10 season.

"Jarrett came to us mid-season last year and provided us with a constant offensive threat, leadership and timely scoring. Fans, teammates and coaches are all excited to have Jarrett back in a Chiefs uniform in 2009-10. With his exposure to the AHL at the end of last season, we expect Jarrett to raise the bar this season," said Vice President and General Manager Bill Bredin.

The 26-year-old left wing came to Johnstown as a free agent in late December 2008 after the Fresno Falcons folded. Konkle led the Falcons in goals (15) and points (23) prior to their folding, and he brought that same scoring touch to Johnstown. In his Chiefs debut at Reading on December 30, Konkle assisted on Andy Contois goals in the first and third period before scoring the eventual game winner on the power play late in the third. In his home debut the next night, Konkle scored an unassisted shorthanded goal in the third to help the Chiefs rally back from a 4-0 deficit against Trenton and force overtime on New Year's Eve.

By the end of the season, Konkle was averaging better than a point per game with 31 (14G, 17A) in 28 contests. The Toronto native's strong play in Johnstown earned him his first career AHL call up with the Binghamton Senators. He immediately fit in at the "AAA" level and produced three points (1G, 2A) in his first five games with Binghamton.

Konkle's ECHL career includes a stop in South Carolina during the 2006-07 season, and he also played one season for the Elmira Jackals while they were a member of the UHL. In the ECHL Konkle has amassed 114 points (53G, 61A) in 150 games. Prior to turning pro, Konkle starred at NCAA D-III Elmira College. He averaged better than a point per game there with 125 (78G, 57A) in 98 games.

Konkle becomes the 16th player under contract for the upcoming season. He joins fellow forwards Brett Liscomb, Ryan Menei, Erik Felde, Sean Berkstresser, Matt Robinson, Torren Delforte, and Jozef Sladok. On the defensive end the Chiefs have Bobby Phillips, Mike Knight, Greg Gallagher, Kyle Bushee, David Schulz, Brent Patry, Jim Jorgensen, and goalie Kris Mayotte.
