Cleveland Monsters News Release
After getting on the board first, the Lake Erie Monsters (26-24-2-2) gave up four unanswered goals to the Toronto Marlies, falling 4-1 at Ricoh Coliseum in a matinee game on Monday. The only Monsters goal of the game was Peter MacArthur's first as a Monster, a power play marker early in the first period. The Monsters are now 4-4-0-0 against Toronto so far this season with two games still to play.
In his fourth game with Lake Erie, MacArthur's first goal gave the Monsters a 1-0 lead at 7:08 of the opening frame, after Cameron Gaunce spotted MacArthur open on a back-door pass. Brad Malone also earned an assist on the goal.
Greg Scott evened the score at 1-1 for Toronto when he received a pass in front of the net from Will Acton out of the corner; Scott one-timed the puck by Monsters goalie Gerald Coleman, who was making his 12th straight start in net for the Monsters.
The Marlies opened the second period scoring when Jerry D'Amigo scored on a turnaround backhand shot from just in front of the Monsters goal crease. The Marlies took a 2-1 lead, which would remain for the duration of the middle period, at 6:57 of the second.
Ryan Hamilton added a power play goal for Toronto from the front of the Monsters net early in the third period to extend Toronto's lead to 3-1 at 4:45.
D'Amigo scored an empty-net goal at 18:49, his second of the game, to give Toronto the 4-1 lead, which would be the final score.
Coleman stopped 26 of 29 Toronto shots; he is now 9-4-1. Ben Scrivens stopped 28 of 29 Monsters shots; he is 14-10-1.
The Monsters are back in action Thursday when they host the Hershey Bears. The puck drops at 7:00 PM at Quicken Loans Arena. The game can be heard on ESPN 850 WKNR and seen live on FOX Sports Ohio.
NOTES: Monday's goals was not only Peter MacArthur's first goal as a Monster, but his first goal this season in the AHL (one game previously with Peoria)... The Monsters have scored a power play goal in eight of their last 10 games... Forward Brad Malone has recorded an assist in the last three games for the Monsters, including Monday's game.
