Four-Run Sixth Pushes Cardinals Past Frisco

FRISCO, TEXAS (AUGUST 15, 2013) - The Frisco RoughRiders fell to the Springfield Cardinals 6-1 Thursday at Dr Pepper Ballpark in their final matchup of the season. Ryan Rua knocked his 30th homer of the season, his first at the Double-A level.

After two scoreless innings, Tyler Tufts gave up a solo home run to James Ramsey as the Cardinals (27-25, 60-60) took a 1-0 lead. The 'Riders (20-32, 59-63) responded quickly in the bottom of the inning when Ryan Rua fired a leadoff homer to tie the game.

Jon Edwards came in for Tufts in the sixth, giving up a leadoff single to Ramsey, and walking Colin Walsh and Ruben Gotay to load the bases. Xavier Scruggs then knocked a sac fly to center, and then Cody Stanley knocked a three-run homer to right.

The Cardinals added another run in the seventh off a wild pitch by Kyle McClellan. In the ninth, Gotay fired a home run to left, extending the Cardinals lead 7-1, which was the final score.

Tufts had a strong start, pitching five innings, allowing just one run on five hits with one walk and a strikeout. Tim Cooney (7-7) pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, allowing just one homer and striking out seven to earn the victory. Edwards (0-1) allowed four runs on three hits to take the loss.

The 'Riders begin a new series with the Tulsa Drillers Friday at Dr Pepper Ballpark at 7:05. Nick Martinez (0-0, 1.50 ERA) will make the start for the RoughRiders against Tulsa's Eddie Butler (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
