Frisco, TX - The Frisco RoughRiders took the middle game of the three-game set, 6-1, against the Springfield Cardinals before 4,756 fans at Dr. Pepper Ballpark on Wednesday night.

Frisco (20-32, 59-63) opened up an early advantage with a two-out rally in the bottom of the first inning against RHP Richard Castillo (L, 7-8). With two away, rehabbing Texas Rangers DH Lance Berkman worked a walk to extend the frame, before moving to second base on a single by 1B Brett Nicholas. CF Joe Benson then placed an RBI base hit through the left side of the infield, swinging the RoughRiders into the 1-0 lead.

After the Riders added two more in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from C Tomas Telis and an RBI fielder's choice by SS Luis Sardinas, they tacked on single runs in the fifth and the sixth. An RBI double by RF Chih-Hsien Chiang in the fifth made it a 4-0 advantage, before a two-out RBI single from pinch hitter Teodoro Martinez in the sixth stretched it to 5-0.

Frisco RHP Luke Jackson (W, 1-0) kept the Cardinals bats in check through his five innings, before scoreless frames from LHP Alex Claudio and LHP Jimmy Reyes.

However, the Cardinals (27-25, 60-60) struck in the top of the eighth against Reyes in his second inning of work. C Cody Stanley started the inning by reaching safely on a fielding error charged to 3B Ryan Rua. After LF Starlin Rodriguez singled Stanley to second base, a productive groundout from RF Adam Melker advanced both runners to second and third. SS Luis Mateo followed with an RBI groundout to short, enabling Stanley to dart home from third base and cut the deficit to 5-1.

The RoughRiders, though, got the run back in the bottom of the eighth inning before RHP Lisalverto Bonilla logged a scoreless top of the ninth to close the 6-1 win for Frisco.
