Four Run First Propels Keys in Opener

July 29, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys jumped on Potomac starter Cameron Selik for four runs in the first inning and then rode RHP Bobby Bundy to the finish line. Bundy tossed seven scoreless innings en route to his, Carolina League best, 11th win of the season. The win put Frederick 25 games over .500 on the year and increased their lead to three games in the Northern Division second half standings.

RF Steve Bumbry started the first inning onslaught with a leadoff homer to right-center. 2B Jonathan Schoop and SS Manny Machado followed Bumbry's sixth home run of the season with a pair of singles. After DH Jacob Julius walked, CF Miguel Abreu crushed a Cameron Selik offering to centerfield. The ball bounced over the wall for a Ground rule double. C Brian Ward capped of the four run first with a sac fly that scored Julius from third.

Frederick

did not tally another run on the evening but it did not matter as Bobby Bundy did the rest of the work. Bundy surrendered just three hits on the night over seven scoreless innings of work. Over his last three starts, the Owasso, OK native is 3-0 with an ERA of 0.39 (one earned in 23 innings pitched).

LHP Will Startup closed out the game with two scoreless innings of relief.

After taking the opener, the Keys will send LHP Jake Pettit (3-0, 0.51) for game two of the three game series. Potomac will turn to RHP Adam Olbrychowski (3-5, 4.68). First pitch from Pfitzner Stadium is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
