GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Great Falls Voyagers surrendered four runs in the eighth inning, and that was enough for the Helena Brewers to claim a 5-3 victory Friday night at Centene Stadium.

With the game tied at one in the eighth, Helena (11-20, 24-45) started the frame with back-to-back singles against Great Falls reliever Grant Monroe (1-2). Alan Sharkey laid down a bunt for the Brewers, but the Voyagers (13-18, 36-33) made an error on the play allowing the first run to score to give the visitors the lead back.

Eric Williams followed that up with an RBI single for Helena, and with two outs, a big two-run double from Edgardo Rivera off Matt Cooper capped the big frame for the Brewers.

Great Falls pulled a run back in the eighth as they took advantage of some shaky Helena defense to score a run. Brandon Woodruff (1-1) then gave up another run in the ninth inning as Louie Lechich brought home Dillon Haupt with a single, but that was as close as the Voyagers got.

After Voyager starter Luis Martinez retired the first six he faced, Helena put the first three on against the righty in the third. Gregory Munoz then hit into a fielder's choice to open the scoring, bringing home Tucker Neuhaus.

The one run is all that Martinez allowed in his five innings of work. The Venezuelan added five strikeouts, and has now given up one run or less in all five of his starts with Great Falls, going at least five innings each time.

The Voyagers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Lechich took Brewer starter Devin Williams deep for the second time this season, giving the right fielder his fifth blast of the year.

The Voyagers and Brewers shift their series to Kindrick Field Saturday as they will play a doubleheader to make up for a rainout back on August 23. In game one, Great Falls will send righty Dane Stone (5-2, 4.17) to the hill, while Helena will counter with a right-hander of their own in Jorge Ortega (3-4, 4.44). Game two will then follow roughly 30 minutes after the completion of game one. First pitch for game one is set for 5:05 and coverage will begin at 4:50 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
