Sanford Mainers News Release

SANFORD - The New England Collegiate Baseball League has announced that four Sanford Mainers have been named league All-Stars, in addition to the team's broadcaster.

Sanford's Zach Jancarski (Maryland), Ako Thomas (Michigan), Will Tribucher (Michigan) and Nelson Mompierre (Miami Dade) and team play-by-play broadcaster Tom Porter (Rhode Island) have all been named NECBL Northern Division All-Stars.

Jancarski and Thomas will be starters for the North, with Tribucher named as a reliever to the team and Mompierre as the back-up catcher. The Mainers will also send OF Chris Gaetano (Monmouth) as the team's home run derby contestant.

With the Mainers, Jancarski is hitting a team-best .340 in 26 games, with nine doubles to his credit and an on-base percentage of .426, making him one of the most feared names in the NECBL. The Terrapin has also stolen 14 bases for Sanford.

Jancarski, in 39 games for the University of Maryland College Park, hit .257 collecting 19 hits and six RBIs. Jancarski was a stalwart defender in the outfield, recording 50 putouts without committing a single error in his sophomore season.

Thomas leads the Mainers in on-base percentage with a .447 mark, hitting .333 in the process. The Wolverine has started 19 times in the middle infield, with overwhelming majority of starts coming at second base.

In his freshman year at Michigan, Thomas appeared in 47 games and hit .263 in his first collegiate season, alongside a .390 on-base percentage. He led all freshman in appearances and starts and managed seven multi-hit games on the season.

The Mainers' Tribucher, has dazzled for Sanford, sporting a 1.33 ERA and 28 strike outs over 27 innings. Tribucher earned NECBL Pitcher of the Week honors in the first week of the season with six shutout innings at Danbury, where he allowed just one base hit.

Tribucher excelled as a pitcher in 2016, posting a winning record of 3-2 in 20 appearances and three starts for the Michigan Wolverines. His 33.1 innings were tops among bullpen pitchers and his .224 opposing batting average were among the best on the Wolverines.

As Sanford's catcher, Mompierre has been an RBI machine, netting 12 RBIs and 15 walks for the Mainers offense. Mompierre has one home run this season, a memorable grand slam against the Newport Gulls, which tipped the game in favor of the Mainers.

Mompierre hit .355 with three homeruns and 31 RBIs in 37 games for Miami Dade College this spring. Not just gifted with the stick, he also proved to be patient at the plate as evidenced by 23 walks and an on-base percentage that was almost 100 points higher than his batting average.

For the home run derby, Mainers outfielder Gaetano will represent the club, having already hit six doubles, a triple and three home runs to the tune of 14 RBIs. Gaetano's most memorable blast came in Sanford's home opener, where he hit a walk-off homerun to right field to defeat the Vermont Mountaineers.

In addition to the four players and home run derby contestant, Sanford will also send their broadcaster Tom Porter for the radio and TV call of the day's festivities on the NECBL Broadcast Network. This is Porter's second NECBL All-Star appearance, having represented the New Bedford Bay Sox and the Southern Division at last year's All-Star game in Sanford.

Full coverage of the day's activities can be found for free on the NECBL Broadcast Network beginning at approximately 2 PM with the start of the 60 yard dash, to be followed by the home run derby and the All-Star game, with first pitch due for NECBL's Midsummer Classic at 6:35 PM. Sanford's Porter will have the call with the Mystic Schooners' and Southern Division All-Star Mike Miezejeski
