Rockford Lightning News Release

Eastern Conference selections to the 2006 CBA All-Star game in Boise, Idaho have been announced. The Lightning will be well represented this season in the annual classic with four players getting the call this morning. Two Lightning draft picks from the 2005 CBA draft were among the players selected to play on January, 17 with the top players in the Eastern Conference.

Roger Powell Jr., a 6-foot-6 forward out of the University of Illinois and the Lightning's fourth round draft pick this season, will be in Idaho making his first appearance in the All-Star game. Powell leads the Lightning in points this season averaging 22.2 per game, along with 7.2 rebounds per game. He is also second in the league in offensive rebounds averaging 3.5 per game.

Also in his first All-Star game this season is rookie center and Rockford's second round pick Kenyon Gamble. Gamble is a 6-foot-11 center out of Tuskegee University. He leads the league in blocked shots with 2.7 per game and is on pace to rank among Lightning all-time career leaders in blocked shots after just one season.

Ronnie Fields, a 6-foot-3 guard out of Chicago's Farragut Academy High School, is making just his second appearance in the All-Star game this season. He has been a part of the festivities twice in his career, once in 1997 when he won the All-Star Slam Dunk Competition, and again in 2003 as a member of the team. Fields is averaging 20.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game for the Lightning this season. He is among the league leaders in points and steals and has been a crucial part of the teams 15-6 start this season.

In his first season with the Lightning, 6-foot-3 guard Marlon Parmer has put up impressive numbers as he has averaged 21.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Parmer was an All-Star in 2005 with the Yakama Sun Kings and will be making his second All-Star appearance in as many years this season as a member of the Lightning. He scored 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists in last year's game, but came up short to the Eastern Conference team coached by Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo.

The CBA league office will announce the Western Conference selections for the All-Star game this Thursday, January 5. Head coaches for the game will not be announced until Monday, January 9. The local media and CBA Head Coaches are asked to vote on which players to select to the All-Star teams. Coaches are selected by having the highest quarter-point average at the halfway point of the season.
