Rockford Lightning News Release
Over the past two years Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo has heard this phrase
yelled from the fans in the stands whenever the Lightning needed a little extra
energy on the court "put Sidney in!" Now the coach in Namika Lahti, Finland may be
hearing it as well.
Sidney Holmes, the 6'6 rebounding machine, has signed a contract to play for Namika
Lahti, Finland this fall. Holmes started 35 games for the Lightning this past year
while averaging seven points per game and eight rebounds per contest.
"I have been with Sidney for many years and watched him grow and mature into not
only a great basketball player but an even better person." Said Lightning Coach
Chris Daleo. "Sidney played for me in college and then he was a Lightning Free
Agent Camper. I watched him play his way from someone just holding a rookie spot to
a valuable and dependable starter in the league. No one worked harder and he won me
a lot of ballgames."
Namika Lahti finished their season 27-17. Other former Lightning players who played
in the Finnish League last year were guard Tim Kisner who played for Honka and
forward Jonathon Jones who played for Namika Lahti. Jones earned all second team
honors this past year.
