Several players from this past season's Rockford Lightning team have moved on to
join teams in different league's across the World.
Kenyon Gamble, the 6-foot-11 Lightning rookie center out of Tuskegee University
signed this week to play for the Rome Gladiators of the World Basketball Association
(WBA). Gamble capped off his impressive rookie season with the Lightning as a
member of the 2006 Eastern All-Star team and was named to the All-League Defensive
Team after leading the league with 84 total blocked shots (1.8 pg.), and finishing
second in the league in field goal percentage (63.2 pct.). The Gladiators are
coached by former Lightning player Harold Ellis. Sidney Holmes is also expected to
sign with the Gladiators later next week.
"Kenyon must continue to work on his game. The more he plays the better he gets",
said Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. "We have a great relationship with Rome, and
we feel Kenyon's abilities will continue to progress."
Marlon Parmer has signed with Ittihad of Saudi Arabia in time for the Arab Clubs
Championship which will take place on April 27th in Morocco. Parmer finished the
regular season fourth in the league in scoring (20.9 ppg.), and third in assists
(7.3 apg.) while adding 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 44 games this season. The
twenty-five year old guard was named to the CBA All-Star Classic for the second
straight year and dished out a game high 11 assists while adding 10 points this
season. Parmer was named the CBA Player of the Week on Jan. 23. He shot 44.6% from
the field, 40.2% from behind the arc, and 77.4% from the free throw line while
leading the league in foul shots made (281) and attempted (363) this season.
"The Lightning always tries to place as many players as they can overseas or in summer leagues," said Daleo. "I am glad these players have continued to find employment in order to keep honing their craft. We wish them the best of luck."
