
Four in the Fourth Pushes Boomers Past Gateway

SAUGET, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, scored four runs in the fourth inning to collect a 4-3 over the Gateway Grizzlies in the opener of a series on Tuesday night.
Gateway netted single runs in each of the first two innings against starter Seth Webster, building a 2-0 edge. Webster settled in, striking out nine in seven innings to earn his team leading sixth win of the season. The Boomers tied the game on a two-run single from Mikal Hill in the fourth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Zack Weigel worked the count full before poking a two-run single to left to account for the final.
Weigel reached base three times, drawing a pair of walks. Kenny Towns tallied two hits as the Boomers were able to win despite finishing with just five in the contest. Schaumburg did not record a hit after the fifth inning against the Gateway bullpen. Evan Boyd worked the eighth four Schaumburg while Dexter Price spun a perfect ninth for his eighth save of the season. The Boomers won the opener of a series for the first time since downing Normal on July 1, a stretch of six series.
The Boomers (28-35) continue the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Scott Schultz (4-3, 5.17) is scheduled to start against LHP Corey Kimes (4-2, 3.98). Schaumburg returns home on Friday night to kick-off another busy weekend of fun featuring a pair of firework displays.
