Wild Things Score A Come Back Victory

 WASHINGTON, PA- The Washington Wild Things (30-29) took on the Normal CornBelters (29-32) in game one of a three game series Tuesday night at CONSOL Energy Park. The Wild Things defeated the Belters 4-3 in dramatic fashion in a late inning comeback. Zac Grotz (1-2) picked up the late inning win for the Wild Things, finishing with a 1.63 ERA and one strikeout in one inning pitched. Race Parmenter (3-2) is charged with the mound loss, surrendering two hits and two runs in 0.2 of an inning pitched.

 The Wild Things took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd on an RBI single from Chris Grayson that was set up by a single from left fielder Andrew Heck. The scoring for Washington continued into the 4th with a solo shot to deep center field by David Popkins that extended the lead to 2-0.

 The CornBelters began their comeback in the top of the 5th with a leadoff single by Brandon Roberts and a double by Dylan Kelly. The back to back hits set up a sacrifice fly to center by Justin Fletcher that brought home Dylan Kelly, cutting the lead to 2-1. Normal threatened to score later in the inning with runners on the corners, until Chris Grayson made a spectacular catch in deep center to end the inning.

 The Belters tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the 7th on a Santiago Chirino RBI single that was set up by a Justin Fletcher dropped 3rd strike. A pair of singles from Normal's Mitch Elliot and Nolan Meadows set up the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly from Brandon Roberts that put the Belters out in front 3-2. Washington tied it up with a two out double from Ricky Rodriguez and RBI double from David Popkins that tied the game at 3-3. The 4-3 winning run was delivered in a bases loaded situation when a wild pitch struck Jamodrick McGruder, scoring David Popkins.
