MARION, ILL. - The Southern Illinois Miners got five shutout innings from DYLLON NUERNBERG against his former team and three relievers finished off the shutout as they held the Windy City ThunderBolts off the board in a 3-0 victory at Rent One Park on Tuesday night, their ninth win in a row overall and seventh in shutout fashion to improve to 43-17 on the year.

Windy City loaded the bases with nobody out against Nuernberg (6-1) in the second inning, but the right-hander struck out the next three hitters to preserve the scoreless tie before the Miners un-tied it in the bottom half of the inning. FRANCISCO ROSARIO singled through the right side of the infield to score STEVE MARINO from second with two outs and give the Miners a 1-0 lead. They were able to add on in the fourth when NOLAN EARLEY smacked a pitch from Kyle Von Ruden (1-1) over the right field fence for his seventh homer of the season and a 2-0 Southern Illinois advantage.

The ThunderBolts had another opportunity to plate runs in the fifth on two leadoff walks by Nuernberg, who walked seven in the game. But again, the former ThunderBolt bore down, as he got a popout for the second out of the inning after a sacrifice moved the runners to second and third. Then, after loading the bases on another walk, Nuernberg struck out his seventh batter of the contest to again leave the bases juiced. Windy City would not get another baserunner until the ninth inning, when ADAM LOPEZ allowed a pair of singles before getting Coco Johnson to pop out to end the ballgame.

In the meantime, KYLE TINIUS and CHRIS DEBOO combined for three perfect innings of work and the Miners added their final run in the seventh on an RBI double by recently-named Frontier League Player of the Week SHANE KENNEDY. The victory marked the Miners' ninth in a row overall as well as their second shutout win on the homestand.

Nuernberg pitched five innings to get the win, allowing seven walks but just one hit (a second-inning single) while tying his season-high with seven strikeouts. Kennedy went 2-for-4 with a double and Earley 1-for-4 with a homer, extending hitting streaks to seven and nine games, respectively. Southern Illinois will look to extend their winning streak since the all-star break out to 10 in a row on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m., with DAN LUDWIG taking the ball against Windy City southpaw Brady Muller.

The Southern Illinois Miners are the back-to-back Frontier League East Division Champions and the 2012 Frontier League Champions. They have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year award three times since their inception, and also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007, their inaugural season.
