Houston Dash News Release
HOUSTON - Houston Dash defenders Lindsay Agnew and Allysha Chapman, midfielder Sophie Schmidt and forward Nichelle Prince were named to the Canadian Women's National Team roster by head coach Kenneth Heiner-Moller for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, Canada Soccer announced today.
The CanWNT, ranked fifth in the world by FIFA, open the tournament on June 10 against Group E contender Cameroon at Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier, France. Five days later, Canada will face New Zealand at Stade des Alpes in Grenoble. Canada will finish group play against The Netherlands in Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims.
Agnew made her debut with the Canadian senior team in 2017 and has tallied 11 appearances. Chapman is set to make her second World Cup appearance after playing every minute of five games in Canada's run in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Prince will join Canada in her first World Cup appearance after making her debut in 2013. The forward has scored 10 goals and tallied eight assists in 49 appearances for Canada. Prince was also part of the squad that won the 2016 Algarve Cup, Canada's first Algarve Cup victory.
Schmidt has been part of Canada's national team since 2005 and will make her fourth World Cup appearance for Canada. The midfielder is 18 appearances shy from making her 200th appearance with CanWNT, having scored a total of 19 goals. At the 2019 Algarve Cup in Portugal, Schmidt scored the first penalty kick for Canada in the decisive penalty shootout against Sweden in the bronze medal game.
All four Dash players joined Canada for camp after Houston's victory against Orlando on May 5.
