ORLANDO, Fla. - On Saturday morning, Canada Women's National Team Head Coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller announced the 23 players who will represent Canada at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France this summer. Among those selected was the Pride's lone Canadian international, defender Shelina Zadorsky.
For Zadorsky, 26, this is the first World Cup selection of her career. The Ontario product made her senior debut in 2015 and has recorded 52 appearances for Canada. Zadorsky has been a part of the Canadian program since she made her youth debut in 2008 for Canada's U-17 Women's National Team, recording spells with both the U-17 and U-20 squads in her international career before being called up to the senior team.
The defender was a member of the squad for the Rio Olympics in 2016 where the country won the bronze medal. Zadorsky is in her second season with the Pride, recording 28 appearances, all starts, for the Club. A graduate of the University of Michigan, the center back has totaled 62 career NWSL appearances since joining the league in 2016.
This summer, Canada will face Cameroon, New Zealand and the Netherlands in Group E at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. Canada will open group play against Cameroon on June 10 (3 p.m. ET) at Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier. The Canadians then face New Zealand on June 15 (3 p.m. ET) at Stade des Alpes in Grenoble, followed by the Netherlands on June 20 (12 p.m. ET) at Stade Auguste-Delaune II in Reims. The 2019 World Cup Final will take place on July 7 in Lyon.
With Zadorsky's call-up, the Pride will have a total of eight players representing the Club in France this summer, joining Alex Morgan, Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris for the USA; Alanna Kennedy and Emily van Egmond for Australia; and Marta and Camila for Brazil.
