Four Home Runs Pace Offence

The Calgary Vipers used four home runs and four multi-run innings to defeat the Victoria Seals 12-4 before 1892 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Calgary scored three runs in the second and fifth innings, two tallies in the seventh, and four more runs in the ninth to go along with four solo home runs. On the mound Dusty Gober (9-1) was excellent for the victory with six innings pitched, giving up only four hits and two runs against. With the victory the Vipers are three and a half games ahead of the Seals for first place in the North Division at 24-13 record with eight games remaining. Overall the Snakes are 47-33 on the Golden Baseball League season.

At the plate Drew Miller led the offense with a home run, two doubles, and five runs batted in to tie him for the league lead in RBI. Julio Ramirez meanwhile collected four hits including a big fly and scored four runs.

Out of the bullpen both Jorge Vasquez and Rob Naegele threw scoreless innings for Calgary.

Victoria opened up the scoring in the first inning when Wilver Perez and Terrence McClain both hit doubles for a 1-0 advantage.

Calgary responded in the second as Ramirez hit his 16th home run of the season to tie the game, Miller hit his 18th home run of the season to take the lead, Caonabo Cosme singled, Dusty Gober walked, and Jonny Kaplan collected a run batted in base hit for a 3-1 lead.

The Seals got a run back for a 3-2 in the third frame when Perez singled, stole second base, advanced to third when the pitcher Gober robbed Henry Calderon of a base hit with a behind-the-back snag, and McClain knocked in a run with a groundout.

The Vipers added to their lead in the fifth inning as Kaplan singled, reached second base on a throwing error, Jorge Mejia laid down a sacrifice bunt, Brent Metheny collected a sacrifice fly, Ramirez and Price both singled followed by a two-run double from Miller for a 6-2 score.

In the seventh Calgary continued to score when Metheny lined his 12th home run of the year, Ramirez singled, and scored on a Luis Taveras RBI double for a 8-2 advantage.

Victoria got two runs back in the eighth frame as McClain walked, Brian Rios doubled for a RBI, Matt Kavanaugh singled, and Colin Moro drove in a run with a fielder's choice for a 8-4 game.

The Snakes opened up their lead further in the bottom of the inning when Kaplan smoked his eighth home run of the season, Mejia, Ramirez, and Price all singled for a run, and Miller drove in two more with a double for a 12-4 lead.

The Vipers' final regular season home-stand at Foothills Stadium concludes with a first-place showdown against the Victoria Seals on Sunday August 29th at 1:35 PM MDT for Fan Appreciation Day.
