Flyers Stifle Cimarrones In Game 1

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Orange County Flyers used a strong outing from four pitchers on a "staff day" to stifle Tijuana Cimarrones, 5-1, in the first game (7 innings) of Saturday's doubleheader at Goodwin Field. Manny Ayala threw two perfect innings, including striking out the side in the fifth inning on 12 pitches picked up his league-leading 13th win of the season. Mark Prior added a scoreless 7th inning to finish the game, striking out a batter to bring his total to 20 batters fanned in 10 total innings of work with the Flyers.

Tyler Keeble singled in the first and stole second base before Sergio Pedroza singled to bring him home for an early 1-0 lead. In the second inning, David Harris reached on an infield single, advanced to third on singles by Derek Perren and Bryan Harris, and scored on when Steve Boggs was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

After two perfect innings by Bryan Harris to start the game on the mound for Orange County, the Cimarrones got on the board with a run on an RBI single from pitcher Peter Martinez off Matt Durkin the third inning. Durkin responded with a 1-2-3 fourth inning of work.

OC added three runs in the fifth inning on a Julian Benavidez RBI double to plate Jimmy Rohan, followed by Derek Perren's two-run homerun (6) for the 5-1 advantage.

Ayala is tied with Maui's Donald Brandt at 13 wins in 2010, establishing a new mark for wins in a single season in the Golden Baseball League.

The Flyers take on the Cimarrones in the second game of today's doubleheader starting at 7:45pm at Goodwin Field.
