Four Home Runs Lift Lexington Legends over West Virginia in Game One

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - The Lexington Legends tied a season high four home runs in a 10-1 victory over the West Virginia Power in the first game of a four game series. Kyle Isbel, Cristian Perez, Manny Olloque and Marten Gasparini all went deep to improve the Legends second half record to 12-14 while the Power dropped to 13-13.

Isbel belted the first homer of the game on the second pitch in the bottom of the first inning to put the Legends ahead 1-0. Isbel was in his season debut for Lexington after beginning the year in Idaho Falls.

Olloque then blasted a solo shot with one out in the bottom of the second inning, extending the Legends' lead 2-0.

In the bottom of the third, Ricky Aracena led off with a single up the middle then moved to second when Isbel drew a walk. Perez then smacked a three-run home run, further extending Lexington's lead 5-0.

The Power avoided the shutout in the top of the fourth inning. Rodolfo Castro lined a single to right field then advanced to third on a single by Cal Mitchell. Jesse Madrano hit a groundball to the shortstop, Perez, allowing Castro to score and the Power was on the board, 5-1.

In the sixth inning, Carlos Diaz grounded to the shortstop, but reached on a fielding error by the first baseman, Kyle Watson. Gasparini then crushed a two-run homer and the Legends led 7-1.

Lexington would then go on to plate three more runs in the bottom of the eighth. MJ Melendez led off with a double to deep centerfield then scored on an RBI triple by Olloque. Diaz grounded out to the Power's shortstop and Olloque scored. Leading 9-1, Aracena drew a walk then scored on an RBI single to right field by Perez.

Danny Hrbek was awarded the win for the Legends tossing 2.0 scoreless and hitless innings allowing one walk and striking out one. Cody Bolton was given the loss for West Virginia throwing 3.0 innings allowing five runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three. Daniel Lynch was solid in his second start for the Legends, pitching 4.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five.

The Legends and Power will meet again tomorrow, July 20 at 7:05 p.m. for game two. Lexington will send RHP Yefri Del Rosario (0-5, 5.18 ERA) to face West Virginia's RHP Travis MacGregor (1-2, 2.59 ERA).
