Columbia Takes Game One

Columbia, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, lost 5-2 to the Columbia Fireflies on Thursday night.

In the first inning, the GreenJackets got out to an early lead. With two-outs and Manuel Geraldo on at second base, Ryan Kirby singled into right field to put Augusta in front 1-0. The Fireflies would respond with one of their own in bottom of the inning to tie the game at one.

That would remain the score until the sixth inning. Jacob Gonzalez would single up the middle to score Heliot Ramos from second base to give the GreenJackets a 2-1 lead. Once again, the Fireflies would respond in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at two.

Then in the bottom of the seventh inning, Scott Manea would hit a three-run home run to put the fireflies in control, 5-2. That would end up being the final as Columbia took game one of the series.

Garrett Cave had a nice outing on the mound for the GreenJackets, going 5 1/3 innings. He gave up only three hits and two runs.

The GreenJackets will be back in action tomorrow against the Fireflies at 7:05 pm.
