Charleston RiverDogs News Release

ROME, GA - The New York Yankees have announced the addition of infielder Ricky Surum to the Charleston RiverDogs roster, taking the vacated roster spot of outfielder Matt McPhearson, who was placed on the seven-day disabled list on Wednesday, retroactive to July 16.

Surum, New York's 16th round pick in 2017, was reassigned from the Yankees' High-A club on Thursday. The 23-year-old infielder has played at three different levels of the system this year, including as high as Double-A, going 10-for-52 (.192) at the plate in 16 total games. A former Conference Carolinas Player of the Year in the Division II ranks at the University of Mount Olive (N.C.), the Virginia Tech transfer played his way into the draft with a phenomenal senior season when he hit .372 with a career-high 12 home runs (he only had one his previous three seasons) while starting all 58 games at short for the Trojans.

McPhearson hits the disabled list for the second time this year after going on a hot streak with the Charleston. The speedy outfielder had hit .373 (19-for-51) since the All-Star break and had raised his average from a .182 clip at the beginning of June to .266.

With their retooled roster, the RiverDogs start a four-game road trip on Thursday night in Rome, GA before returning for a weeklong homestand on Monday at The Joe.

RiverDogs single-game tickets, including options to the Riley Park Club, are now available for the 2018 campaign, the club's 25th season as the RiverDogs and their "175th season in dog years." Ticket information can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com/tickets.
