June 10, 2019 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Down East Wood Ducks News Release
Woodbridge, Va. - The Potomac Nationals blasted four home runs in the ballgame, a season high-given up by Down East pitching, on their way to a 8-1 victory Monday, in game one of a three-game series.
The Wood Ducks (45-19) see their six game winning streak come to a close, one day after clinching a playoff spot. The seven-run loss was the largest margin of defeat for the Woodies this year.
The Nationals (28-33) opened the scoring with a pair of homers in the second against Alex Eubanks (loss, 5-2). Telmito Agustin lifted his third home run of the year, a solo shot to right to put the P-Nats ahead, 1-0. Two batters later Osvaldo Abreu ripped a double down the line in left, and Jakson Reetz followed with a two run homer to left, his first of the year, to push the lead to 3-0.
Eubanks worked four innings, allowing three runs on five hits, he struck out two and did not walk a batter.
Wes Robertson came on in relief and allowed a home run to Omar Meregildo, a solo shot in the fifth, and his first Carolina League home run. Later in the inning, Nick Banks doubled, and later scored on a Cole Freeman RBI groundout, to make it 5-0.
Robertson stayed on for the seventh inning, and put the first two men on, on a hit by pitch and a walk. Banks followed with a three run homer, his seventh of the year, to push the lead to 8-1.
The lone Wood Ducks run came in the sixth inning when Eric Jenkins led off with a triple, and came into score when Yonny Hernandez reached on an error on a ground ball to shortstop.
It was the only run allowed on the night by Nick Raquet (win, 5-5). He worked six innings, allowing one run on three hits, he walked three and struck out four.
Cole Uvila was a bright spot for the Woodies out of the bullpen, working two scoreless innings, and striking out the side in the eighth to finish his night.
Game two of the three game series is Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. when the Wood Ducks send righty Jason Bahr (5-1, 1.90) to the mound to face off with Potomac righty Andrew Lee (2-3, 3.35). The pregame show will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 960AM The Bull, and online at 960the bull.com, as well as on the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Radio apps.
