Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Jerod Edmondson, Brendon Kelliher, Alex Trezza and Nick Salotti all scored in the first inning in the Worcester Tornadoes' second straight victory, a 8-5 win over the El Paso Diablos at Cohen Stadium on Sunday.

Cameron Monger had a pair of RBI hits (including one in the first), and Mike Gedman pitched seven innings of one-run ball in his second start of the season.

The Tornadoes' southpaw walked a pair of batters, striking out four. He gave up seven hits and had a balk, while getting out of his final frame with a double play. The Diablos left at least one runner in scoring position in five of the game's first seven frames.

Worcester defeated El Paso starter Edgar Garcia, who allowed seven runs in seven innings of work. Garcia struck a handful of hitters out, walked two and allowed double-digit hits (11).

In the first inning, Johnny Welch had the first RBI of the game. After Brandon Pinckney's sacrifice bunt to put Edmondson in scoring position, Worcester's third baseman hit a grounder to second for the first out of the inning. Trezza, Chris Torres and Monger all added one-base hits to plate a run each in the game's opening rally.

Monger added his second RBI base knock by plating Chris Torres with two outs in the third inning, making it 5-1.

The Diablos first reached the scoreboard with a single run in the fifth inning, as Mitch Einertson's single scored Maikol Gonzalez. Gonzalez reached on a hit of his own and took second on a balk before Einterson's hit.

Welch added his fourth RBI on an extra base hit in as many nights to give Worcester a five-run lead again. He came around to score on an error by Gonzalez with Nick Salotti reaching base.

Kyle Regnault was the first reliever out of the pen for the Tornadoes, allowing four runs (all unearned) in two-thirds of a frame. He hit one batter, and allowed two to reach from hits of their own. Scott Clement had a two-run double to score Wellington Dotel (who singled) and Patrick Arlis (who was hit with a pitch). Jonathan Cisneros (who reached on Pinckney's error) and Clement came around to score on a throwing error by Welch.

Nick Serino entered the game and retired the only batter he faced in that frame, Gonzalez with a fly ball. Entering that at-bat, Gonzalez had three hits in the contest. Serino finished his appearance with a strikeout of Arlis after the Diablos put a couple of runners on and brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth.

Marc Gomez and Kyle Cremers each made their second appearance in a row against Worcester, totaling two innings, one run, two hits and two walks allowed. The Tornadoes' run in the top of the ninth came from a Salotti double, bringing Trezza in to score for the second time in the game (the only Worcester hitter to accomplish the feat in the game).

The Tornadoes will go for the series-clinching win on Monday at 9:05pm EST. Ryan Bicondoa will start for Worcester.
