Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - CF Montréal players Loïc Cloutier, Keesean Ferdinand, Maël Henry and Rida Zouhir have been selected by Canada's national U-20 team to participate in the 2022 Concacaf Men's Under-20 Championship, scheduled to take place from June 18 to July 3, in Honduras.
Cloutier (defender, 18 years old), Ferdinand (defender, 18 years old), and Henry (midfielder, 18 years old) play with CF Montréal's U-23 team, which kicked off its inaugural PLSQ season last May.
A member of CF Montréal's senior squad, Zouhir (midfielder, 18) will be at his first Canadian national team youth camp, having played in an international friendly with Morocco's U-20 side, last March.
In addition, Jefferson Alphonse (defender, 18 years old), also a member of CF Montréal's U-23 squad, has been named to the alternate list, and remains on standby for the technical staff in the event of an injury to a player on the main roster.
Jean-Aniel Assi (midfielder, 17), currently on loan with Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League, is also on U-20 coach Mauro Biello's main roster.
Canada has been placed in Group E, alongside Cuba, the United States, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, nations it will face on June 18, 20 and 22, respectively, in the group stage. These three fixtures will take place in Tegucigalpa.
The Concacaf Men's U-20 Championship will determine the confederation's four representatives at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia, as well as the region's two representatives at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Champions in 2018, the United States are the title holders of this biannual competition, which saw its 2020 edition canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament final will take place on July 3, in San Pedro Sula.
