Minnesota United FC vs. SC Paderborn 07 Preview
June 10, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Minnesota United FC News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - In their last MLS regular season game before the international break, the Loons suffered a tough 0-1 loss to the leaders of the Eastern Conference and reigning MLS Champs, NYCFC. May was a tiring month for MNUFC, but after getting a little period of rest and recuperation, the Loons return to field this Saturday for an international friendly against Bundesliga 2 side, SC Paderborn 07. Saturday's game will mark the first meeting between the two teams and promises to bring all of the action. While a handful of our boys in Black and Blue will be away on international duty, there's no doubt that the squad will be focused on getting a win to boost the overall morale as they go into the second half of the season.
ADRIAN HEATH ON WELCOMING INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL TO ALLIANZ FIELD
"It is and I always think it's a good opportunity for people to come. We've got a great stadium, show that off. Show the fact that the league is growing by the way that we play. I know what the Germans are going to be like. They'll come here and they'll treat it properly. I know it's part of their preseason so they'll be working hard. It's important for a lot of... I'm looking forward to the game, I always do. I think the international games give you a little something different and I think for the people out there who are wondering whether they come or not, I think it's a really good opportunity to come and see a Bundesliga team. I think there is something for everybody this weekend."
NIKO HANSEN ON THE PADERBORN MATCH AN OPPORTUNITY TO REGAIN SHARPNESS
"I think it's a good one for us to get some guys some minutes and just mentally play against a good team. I think it takes away, I don't know if you want to say pressure a little bit, and then going out and enjoying ourselves. It's kind of been you get away, you come back, you have a friendly game and I think it kind of sets us well for the rest of the season."

Who Are You: In case you aren't familiar with SC Paderborn 07, the club hails from the city of Paderborn in North Rhine-Westphalia, one of Germany's westernmost states and its most populous. Paderborn (the city), with a little over 150,000 residents, would be Minnesota's third-largest city if it moved here. Paderborn (the club) finished 7th in the 2. Bundesliga, Germany's second tier of professional soccer. They were in the top Bundesliga just two years ago, in 2019-20. Paderborn's 56 goals were sixth-most in the 2. Bundesliga in 2021-22, but their attack was well-balanced, with their top scorer Felix Platte scoring just eight goals on the season. Goalkeeper Jannik Huth led the league with 139 saves, and defender Jasper van der Werff's 92.58% pass completion was also best in the league.
