Baltimore Blast News Release
Baltimore, MD - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today the players who will represent the MISL in the 2006 All-Star Game. Blast forwards Giuliano Celenza and Adauto Neto and defenders Danny Kelly and P.J. Wakefield were selected to represent Baltimore in this year's All-Star Game. The MISL All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday, February 11 at Milwaukee's U.S. Cellular Arena.
"I am happy the Baltimore Blast will be well represented at this year's All-Star Game," said Blast General Manager Kevin Healey. "All four of these players are having outstanding seasons and are certainly qualified to represent the MISL and the Blast in the All-Star Game."
Neto, who is tied to lead the MISL in points, will be making the first All-Star appearance of his three-year MISL career. He joined the Blast this season after the MISL Dispersal Draft and leads the team with 23 points. He leads the MISL with two game-winning goals, ranks second with 12 assists and is tied to rank third with 11 goals. He is a two-time MISL Offensive Player of the Week this season and was the November Offensive Player of the Month. Celenza, a Baltimore native and six-year veteran, will be playing in his second All-Star Game. He was named MVP of the 2004 Game after recording a hat trick to lead Team USA to a 10-1 win over Team International. Celenza was named MISL Offensive Player of the Week earlier this month.
Kelly, a 14-year veteran of professional indoor soccer, has been named to his fifth All-Star Game. He represented the Harrisburg Heat in 1996 and the Blast in 2004 but had to opt out in 1999 and 2001 due to injuries. Kelly spent the first 12 years of his career playing in an offensive position, before becoming an integral part of the Blast's defense last season. He has 10 points so far this season (one goal, nine assists) and 845 points in his career. Wakefield, another Baltimore product, will be playing in his second All-Star Game. In 2003 he recorded two goals and was the East Team's second leading scorer. He has 10 points this season and has been named MISL Defender of the Week twice.
This year's All-Star event will feature a collection of MISL players competing against the Mexican Federation's National Futbol Rapido team. The MISL coaching staff will be announced on Thursday, January 19.
