Four Steamers Receive All-Star Recognition

ST. LOUIS - The Major Indoor Soccer League today announced the players who will represent the MISL in the 2006 All-Star game. St. Louis Steamers forwards Shaun David and Jamar Beasley were named along with goalkeeper Brett Phillips to take part on the MISL All-Star team. They will take on the members of the Mexican Federation's National Futbal Rapido team. Steamers defender and Mexico City native Genoni Martinez will be a member of the Mexican National team. The All-Star game takes place on Feb. 11th at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, WI.

Phillips has been named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week three separate times this season (Nov. 28th, Dec. 19th and Dec. 27th) and is tied for first in the league with eight victories, including his last seven starts. He is also second in the league with a 4.58 goals against average. His play in goal has played a strong role in the successful play of the Steamers of late, winning 8 of their last nine games.

Shaun David will be making his first appearance in the All-Star game. David has enjoyed success this season with ten goals and six assists. He is currently tied for the team lead in total points with 16 which places him tied for seventh in the league. Shaun was named to the 2003-04 MISL All-Rookie Team after his initial season with the Dallas Sidekicks.

Jamar Beasley is making the most of his first season with the Steamers. Beasley was acquired before the season began in a trade with the expansion California Cougars. He has been a consistent scorer this season but has been hot as of late. Beasley has scored seven goals in the last five games and leads the team in goals scored (11) and tied for the team lead in points (16) with David. This will also be Beasley's All-Star game. He was named the MISL Rookie of the Year following the 2003-04 season after registering 31 goals and 15 assists.

Genoni Martinez, also spending his first season on St. Louis, will be representing the Steamers as a member of the Mexican Federation's National Futbal Rapido team. Martinez was selected by the Steamers in the Cleveland Force dispersal draft and has scored four goals and has six assists in only seven games played this season. As a member of the Force last season, he was named to the MISL All-First team. He is also regarded as one of the best defenders in the history of professional indoor soccer.
