Washington Wild Things News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things defeated the Joliet Slammers in the rubber match of the series 9-0. This was behind a fantastic start from starting pitcher Kobe Foster and a great day from the Washington offense.
Washington started the scoring by plating two runs in the first with two outs. Anthony Brocato and Andrew Czech both walked, which set the stage for Wagner Lagrange. In a long at bat, Lagrange eventually doubled and gave the Wild Things the early two-run lead.
The Wild Things scored in the second inning as well. This came off a double steal attempt where JC Santini got thrown out at second and Scotty Dubrule came home to give the Wild Things a 3-0 lead.
Brocato continued the scoring for the Wild Things with a solo home run in the bottom of the third, but Washington really broke the game open in the fourth off of Joliet relief pitcher Marco Quintanar. Santini doubled to score Dubrule and then Chayka hit a two-run bomb to left field that scored Santini. This made it a 7-0 lead for Washington after just four innings.
The Wild Things hit their third home run of the game off the bat of Czech in the fifth. The inning did not end there. Back-to-back doubles from Nick Gotta and Dubrule made the score 9-0. The scoring streak ended at five-straight as pitcher Brad Vanasdlen was able to sit Washington down in the sixth with a zero on the board.
Foster went the distance in the game and didn't allow a run on 3 hits and he only threw 102 pitches. Foster's nine-inning shutout was the second of the year for Washington overall and against Joliet as Foster joined Justin Showalter in that department. Kobe fanned six.
Washington has a travel day tomorrow as they will travel to Schaumburg to take on the Boomers on Tuesday, August 1 at 7:30 p.m. E.T.
