FC Dallas News Release
CHICAGO- FC Dallas forward Eddie Johnson was one of 30 players named today by United States Men's National Team manager Bruce Arena to his January training camp. The camp will convene at U.S. Soccer's National Training Center at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. on Jan. 4 and the group will prepare for a series of friendlies to take place in the first two months of 2006.
This is Johnson's first inclusion in the National Team setup since September 2005 when he was called up for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mexico and Guatemala. He came off the bench to make his ninth National Team appearance in Guatemala before being ruled out for the rest of the year as a result of a stress fracture in the first metatarsal of his right foot. Prior to the injury, Johnson appeared in six games for the U.S. in 2005, tallying three goals and adding an assist. One of those goals came on February 9 on the road against Trinidad and Tobago in the first match of the final round of FIFA World Cup qualifying in the CONCACAF region. He notched the opener in a 2-1 U.S. win to become the first Men's National Team player to score in each of his first four games for the team.
For his National Team career, Johnson has scored eight goals in nine appearances, including seven goals in seven official FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
