CARSON, CA (Tuesday, December 20, 2005) - Five members of the 2005 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy have been called in to the U.S. national team camp that will be held January 4-20, 2006 at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University - Dominguez Hills, U.S. Soccer announced today.
Headlining the group of Galaxy players called into the side by Arena is midfielder Landon Donovan, who has represented his country at the highest level 73 times and scored 25 goals. Joining Donovan among the capped players representing the Galaxy are defender Chris Albright (18/1) and goalkeeper Kevin Hartman (3/0). Two yet-to-be defenders - Todd Dunivant and Ugo Ihemelu - will join the three aforementioned players.
"All five players are certainly deserving of this call-up," said Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "Each of them played an integral role in our team that captured the domestic double in 2005. As a club, we are extremely proud of all of them. We are especially pleased to see Todd and Ugo on the list, Todd for what is just the second time in his career and Ugo for the first - it is a tremendous reward for all the hard work they put in for us last season."
Donovan played in 22 regular season games (20 starts) for the Galaxy in 2005 and scored 12 goals and added 10 assists (both team highs). He added four goals and one assist in four playoff matches in helping to lead the club to the MLS Cup 2005 title.
Albright saw action in 22 regular season matches as well (21 as a starter), contributing one goal and two assists before making an appearance in all for playoff games and registering one assist.
Hartman continued his prolific play between the pipes for the Green and Gold in 2005. He played in 31 matches (all starts) and recorded 13 wins in the regular season (six of them shutouts) and amassed another three victories in an undefeated postseason run, allowing just two goals in four games.
Dunivant played every minute in the Galaxy's 32 regular season and four playoff games, becoming the first player in club history to accomplish the feat. The workhorse registered two assists during the regular season. Meanwhile, Ihemelu participated in 25 regular season matches (23 starts) during his rookie campaign and contributed one assist. He also played in all four of the club's playoff games.
